Blocking happens when a player moves into the path of and gets in the way of a defending player who has the ball and the defending player has no chance of stopping or changing directions and bodily contact happens as a result. When a player is running to get the ball and a defensive player is on their blind side, the defensive player must give the opposing player enough room and time to change direction once they realize that there is a defensive player close to them.
