Fiskeov termin za kodove koje deli publika masovnih medija i koji se neformalno uče kroz iskustvo, pre nego sa namerom ili kroz institucije. Suprotno ciljanom emitovanju, kodovi širokog emitovanja su strukturno jednostavniji i poštuju standardne konvencije i "formule", tako da mogu da stvaraju klišee i stereotipe.
