A method of traversing by plane table, in which the alidade is first placed on a selected line on the map which corresponds to an established line on the ground. The table is then rotated until the line of sight through the alidade coincides with the corresponding line on the ground.

The movement of a fluid, or of a scalar quantity that is considered to move with the fluid. In particular, in oceanography, the term refers to the horizontal or vertical flow of sea water, e.g., a current. In meteorology, it refers either to the predominantly horizontal movement of large masses of the atmosphere or to the transport of an atmospheric property solely by movement of the atmosphere.
